Buteyko north west pracitioner Janet WinterAbout Breathing Remedies

Dr Janet Winter teaches the Buteyko Method to people with asthma, emphysema, Bronchiectasis, chronic bronchitis, sinusitis, panic attacks, hyperventilation syndrome, sleep apnoea, allergies, hay fever, and other breathing difficulties.

Buteyko is a natural breathing method to retrain people with hyperventilation-related health problems. The Buteyko Method relieves asthma symptoms, and has been listed in the UK Asthma Guideline since 2008.

Janet has been involved in healthcare for many years although previously in a very different role. For 20 years she was engaged in novel analgesic drug discovery for a major pharmaceutical company based in a London Institute. She worked as a neuroscientist and cell biologist, directing a small group of bench scientists. She authored or co-authored more than 50 journal articles and reviews on her research. She has also worked as a medical writer, so has a firm grounding in evidence-based medicine.  Janet’s professional profile can be seen at http://uk.linkedin.com/in/janetwinter.

Like many Buteyko Practitioners, she was so impressed by the impact of the technique on her own health (it dramatically reduced the frequency of her severe migraines) that she decided to train to teach it to others. She recently moved to the Peak District where she helps patients to understand and to ultimately gain control of their own condition, by normalising their breathing pattern.

The science behind the success of the Buteyko Method is compelling, and the clinical trial results convincing. For asthma the method is now “evidence-based” and is the only complimentary therapy to be endorsed for asthma (listed in the UK Guideline for Asthma Management since 2008).

She teaches one-on-one or in small groups and is within easy reach of the Manchester area, by road or rail. Furness Vale is on the Manchester to Buxton line.

Janet trained to be a Buteyko practitioner via Jennifer Stark's practitioner training model, with Savio D'Souza performing the practical training. Jennifer has been teaching Buteyko for many years and conducted several of the successful clinical trials of Buteyko in the West.
